I had the pleasure of being able to speak at Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK on Sunday, July 19, 2015. Here is the audio of the talk I gave.
The goal was to talk about the church (in the broader sense) being inclusive and open to those who wish to see Christ in their lives. My premise is that we don’t have to accept the sin to accept the sinner. Many of us point out other people’s sins or shortcomings to make our own faults seem smaller. Christ calls us to spread the “Good News” throughout the land and He didn’t qualify that with who we should share it with or what mold they should fit. We should always strive to show the love of Christ through our lives and the way we carry ourselves. We certainly will fail but that doesn’t mean we should ever stop trying.
My desire is that this message will open the hearts, minds and souls of Christians and non-Christians alike.
Below you will find some of the music that was used during the service. These aren’t the actual performances, but by sharing the YouTube videos I think you will find that it pulls together the talk a little better.
God bless you and may you find peace, joy and happiness in life. Remember what Jimmy V said; every day you need to laugh, think and have your emotions bring you to tears…

[The message was delivered]
It is OK to be different. God created us each uniquely. We are commanded to love one another as Christ loves us. Even the unlovable and different deserve our Christian love.
Matthew 7:3 – 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
John 8:7 – cast the first stone – “let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her”
Romans 3:23 – for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God
1 John 3:22 -24 – (23) And this is His command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us. (24) The one who keeps God’s commands lives in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He lives in us: We know it by the Spirit He gave us.
This says nothing about how a person must look and that we all must be the same. Accept the unacceptable (doesn’t mean we accept their sins).
Are we living a life worthy of the Gospel?
Philippians 1:27 – Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel.
Are we living a life that shines Christ’s love to others or one that turns the unsaved and those weak in their faith away from God?
Who does more harm to mankind, the Christian that turns others away from Christ or the atheist that simply disputes the existence of God?
By churches being judgmental and turning the broken sinner away at the door (whether on purpose or out of a lack of acceptance) we do a disservice to God. When you tell everyone that you are a Christian and you have a “holier than though” attitude but then yell at the clerk at the store or are dishonest in business dealings or get in the face of someone with a lifestyle different than yours – you do more to damage Christianity than you do to bring people to Christ.
[Prayer and invitation for prayer was offered]
Romans 10:9 – “If you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved”.
Song #5 – Come As You Are
Mark 16:15-16 – 15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Matthew 28:19 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 12:14 – Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
2 Corinthians 2:14 – But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
Video #2 – The Least
The Gospel is meant to change the sinner, not for the sinner to change the Gospel to fit their sin.
